The inspiration in this scheme was taken from the large photographic canvas of Amsterdam station.  I really liked the occasional red bicycle, and felt that by using red accents in the room it would create a unified effect. The eye moves easily between the red in the canvas and the red accents on the sofa. This technique can be used for any piece of art or indeed a favourite cushion or fabric sample. 

If your sofa is placed against a wall, create a cohesive grouping, by hanging a large single piece or a group of artwork, directly above.  A large mirror also works; choose a frame that either tones, or contrasts with the sofa.
