DARK, MOODY AND COSY…
by Tamsyn Morgans
Now that winter is pretty much upon us, it’s time to embrace the dark side, and bring cosiness to our home through colour and texture. Dark decor has long been featuring as an interior trend, and even though I have always adored light and bright rooms, I love the moody richness of dark walls. I even have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to dark decor, so it’s only a matter of time before a wall in my home gets the dark treatment! Even if you’re not brave enough to go dark on your walls, bring a touch of luxe cosiness to your home by introducing velvets and linens, textures and metallic touches such as copper and tarnished gold.
I had so much fun styling these corners, and picking out accessories to layer up each look. Teals, mossy greens and battleship greys with a splash of mustard all work beautifully together, and I love the cushions and accessories that Collette has picked out from the new collection by Cozy Living. Glassware in inky shades of blue look striking when grouped together on a mantelpiece or sideboard. Add a rustic touch by bringing a little of the inside in – twigs, driftwood and wooden shutters all look striking when displayed next to luxe fabrics.
Dark walls, in this case painted in Downpipe by Farrow and Ball, make the perfect backdrop for sumptuous velvet chairs, which add a touch of 1930’s decadence to a space. A mantel piece is the perfect place to display art work and collections – mix vintage and contemporary for an eclectic feel.
If the dark look isn’t quite for you, try mixing shades of vintage pink with dove greys and shiny copper or rose gold, for a statement interior look that works throughout the seasons, and will always look beautiful.
